Attractions in Northern Maine Region (ME)
South-Central Maine and the town of Bangor in particular are located within reach of several of the natural wonders that visitors come to Maine to see. Just a bit southeast is Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park; just a bit northwest is Forks and wild river rafting for adventurous people. Bangor itself is a spirited town with great places to dine and some the best summer and regional festivals of the Northeast. Enjoy swimming and boating and fishing at two great state parks – Lily Bay and Peaks Kenney. Take a ride on the S.S. Katahdin in Lil Bay State Park. Bring the family to explore the magnificent rustic forests and mountains of Baxter State Park, with tent and RV camping. Maine Discovery Museum in Bangor is the largest children’s museum north of Boston.
